Technology Description

Mechanically self-adjusting plasma
Background

Plasma discharges are an energy-efficient and environmentally friendly technology for cleaning, disinfection, pre-treatment, and functionalization of surfaces. This technology doesn’t require chemicals and only in some applications, cover gases are used.

Description of the Invention

The Plasma Swing technology uses a mechanically responsive system to ensure and maintain correct working distances, as it automatically adapts to changing dimensions and geometries of work pieces. This way, it eliminates the need for elaborate electronic regulation.

Potential Benefits

Main Advantages

As a simple and reliable application of a cold atmospheric plasma, surface treatments are now possible in a failsafe process. Our invention, the Plasma Swing technology, uses a mechanically responsive system to ensure and maintain correct working distances, as it automatically adapts to changing dimensions and geometries of work pieces.

The innovation brings new benefits to existing Plasma systems, making it twice better. First, with simple, reliable application of a cold atmospheric plasma, surface treatment is now a failsafe process. Second, it will improve the final product quality with better adhesion of coatings and higher bonding strength of various materials, even with random thickness and surface inclination.

Plasma Swing is very versatile but also user friendly. Using simple, adaptive components it’s less likely to be damaged and retrofitting in existing devices is easily possible.

Limitations

Suggested Applications

Diverse materials, the technology can be used on almost all conventional materials, including metals, ceramics, glass, polymer or bio-based materials. Applications reach from disinfection to coating, gluing, forming composites and many more.
