5th EU-Japan High Level Economic Dialogue
On the occasion of the OECD Ministerial Council Meeting in Paris of 2 May, Mr. Valdis Dombrovskis, Executive Vice President of the European Commission for an Economy that Works for People, and European Commissioner for Trade, Ms. Kamikawa Yoko, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, and Mr. Saito Ken, Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan, held the 5th Japan-EU High-level Economic Dialogue.

On Tuesday, 12 December in Brussels, the EU-Japan Centre for Industrial Cooperation will organise an in-person 60-minute briefing/Q&A session on the EU-Japan data flow agreement.
An additional 42 EU and Japanese GIs protected
In the framework of the EU-Japan Economic Partnership Agreement, both parties will protect an additional 42 geographical indications (GIs), such as Raclette de Savoie, Vinagre de Jerez for the EU and sanuki shiro miso (miso paste), or Osaka wine for Japan.
EU-Japan trade surges 13% after catching up to pre-pandemic levels
On 4 April 2023, Executive Vice-President and Commissioner for Trade Valdis Dombrovskis and Japanese Minister of Foreign Affairs Yoshimasa Hayashi co-chaired the fourth meeting of the Joint Committee under the EU-Japan Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA).
EU enterprises still uncommon in Japanese government procurement – Survey
A survey among 950 procurement offices of Japanese government organizations has shown that since the enactment of the EPA, participation of EU enterprises in government tenders is still uncommon.
EU and Japan start negotiations to include rules on cross-border data flows in their EPA
On 24 October, the EU and Japan will formally begin negotiations to include rules on cross-border data flows in the EU-Japan Economic Partnership Agreement. The EPA entered into force in 2019 but did not include provisions on cross-border data flows.
EU-Japan EPA Joint Committee latest meeting
Executive Vice-President Valdis Dombrovskis and Japanese Minister of Foreign Affairs Yoshimasa Hayashi co-chaired on 25 March 2022 (videoconference) the third Joint Committee established under the EPA. 2022 marks three years since the EU-Japan Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) has been in force.
EU-Japan Summit: strengthening our partnership
Japan is one of the EU's closest allies. This was reaffirmed during the 28th EU-Japan Summit held on the 12 May 2022 in Tokyo with President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Council Charles Michel and Japan's Prime Minister Fumio Kishida. During the summit, the EU and Japan took important steps to take their relations forward, from digital technologies, trade and investments, climate action, biodiversity protection, sustainable development as well as security.
EU and Japan should build on strong partnership and strengthen cooperation
On 4 May, BusinessEurope sent a letter to the European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen sharing its priorities ahead of the EU-Japan Summit. The letter highlights the strong partnership between the EU and Japan with the EU-Japan Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) as the bedrock of the economic relationship.
EU-Japan cooperation in the Indo-Pacific
At a meeting organised by the European Policy Centre on 26 April, BusinessEurope Senior Adviser Elena Suárez exchanged views on how the EU and Japan, as like-minded partners, can advance their own strategic agendas by reaffirming their strong commitment to the rules-based international order.
