The BRT's current Working Party 2 (WP2) addresses "Life Sciences & Biotechnology, Healthcare and Well-Being" issues and prepares recommendations to the Government of Japan and to the EU Authorities on these topics.

A 'Life Sciences & Biotechnology' working party was established in time for the 2004 BRT, having held pilot discussions at the 2003 meeting. Over the years the exact title of the working parties have evolved to reflect their changing remit. From 2009 to 2023, Bayer led the EU-side of WP2.

The EU-Japan Centre’s activities are subject to the allocation of a Grant Agreement by the European Commission for 2024-2026
