What should EU exporters know when exporting processed organic food to Japan?

Organic food market in Japan is still small and is strictly regulated. However, it has great business potential for EU agriculture and food producers and manufacturers.

A series of three webinars is scheduled to inform on certification process and procedures to comply with the Organic Japan Agriculture Standards (or JAS). The Standards are legal requirements to market organic foods with ‘organic’ mark in Japan. Japanese authorities recognize many EU countries’ organic certification standards; and EU companies, particularly small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), are encouraged to obtain Japan’s organic JAS mark.

The webinars also brief on overall market trends for heathy foods and drinks, labelling requirements for foods and drinks, and distribution and sales channels including e-commerce for organic foods and drinks. These are the specific key success factors in Japanese organic food market.
