EPA & Maritime Transport

About Maritime Transport:

For Europe, maritime transport has been a catalyst for economic development and prosperity throughout its history. Maritime Transport enables trade and contacts: it ensures the security of supply of energy, food and commodities and provides the main vehicle for European imports and exports to the rest of the world. Almost 90% of the EU’s external freight trade is seaborne. Maritime transport is also crucial for the Japanese economy: the volume of maritime foreign transport in 2017 was 997 million tons. The EU-Japan EPA creates new opportunities to EU companies seeking to ship goods to Japan through Maritime transport.

The complete text of the EPA, and Annexes, incorporating the Articles on martime transport, can be found on the following website of the European Commission: https://policy.trade.ec.europa.eu/eu-trade-relationships-country-and-region/countries-and-regions/japan/eu-japan-agreement/eu-japan-agreement-chapter-chapter_en
