The goal of this report is to provide with the basic knowledge of the legal framework for real estate transactions in Japan. In a sector that generally involves large monetary transactions, it is important for companies to carefully assess the contract and take the relevant laws and statutes into account. This report then provides an overview of the Japanese real estate market and describes the laws and statues as well as the jurisprudence applicable to real estate. Moreover, the report lists the licences and permissions needed and the types of real estate transactions business can perform. Finally, it provides the points that should be considered when drafting the contract provisions of a real estate transaction.
