Autonomous cars, commonly known as self-driving cars, aren’t new to the Japanese automotive industry. There will be more cars in the coming decades but fewer drivers on the road. In the Japanese case, national factors like an ageing population, persistent labour shortages in the transport sector, and food deliveries, are promoting the development of this new type of vehicle. However, social acceptance of autonomous cars is not high enough, even when Japan, already in Level 4 in the autonomous control, is one step closer to total independence.
