Just as in the rest of the world, the media industry in Japan is going through an increasingly rapid transformation due to the rise of digital content and e-commerce. Although Japan is at the forefront of this media revolution, it is important to realise that more traditional formats such as print newspapers are still very popular in Japan, and that Japan's media and information industries are strongly influenced by traditional Japanese culture. To understand the media industry, many unique cultural mores concerning media and news broadcasting which must be taken into consideration.
