— Latest update: November 2023 —
In recent years, due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 virus and its consequences on the health care system, strategic priorities and purchasing behaviours have shifted. According to the 2020-21 survey from L.E.K., there are multiple demographic, financial, and social pressures that challenge Japan’s medical management. In light of the low birth rate and ageing population, Japan finds itself with the problem of having to pay for health care expenditure, while having difficulties in providing this budget due to an imbalance in the working-age group and the majority non-working population. In light of these difficulties, it is important to analyse the situation and new priorities of the health care system in Japan.
