Bioinformatics

 Latest update: March 2025

Japan is a major player in bioinformatics, a sector that is currently worth approximately 16 billion dollars globally. The country, after China, is the second largest bioinformatics market in Asia, which itself is this field’s fastest growing region. In particular, Japan poses unique challenges due to its urgent need to address the growing health concerns of an aging population, while the country’s existing digitalisation efforts provide opportunities for innovation. Furthermore, with Asia’s largest bioinformatics database located in Japan, the sector will be of an increasing importance, especially with its application to the medical and pharmaceutical industries.
