This report is an updated edition of a first study on cell technology, cell therapy, tissue engineering and gene therapy in Japan published in 2015. It aims to summarise key events which have taken place in academic and medical research in these different fields. Furthermore, the report includes information concerning Japanese industrial landscapes as well as Japanese Government activities related to these medical advances. Lastly, it provides various recommendations to EU companies for a successful market entry.

Rolf Schmid is Founder and Director of Bio4Business, a consulting company in Stuttgart.
