It is surrounded by the Pacific Ocean to the south and east, Oita Prefecture to the north, and Kumamoto and Kagoshima Prefectures to the west. As of 1 April 2012, 12% of the total land area of the prefecture was designated as Natural Parks. [2]
Climate
Miyazaki's climate is relatively mild due to the warm Japan Current. It ranks on top for number of sunny days and it is not uncommon to have winters without any snowfall. [2]
Recent history, culture
Thanks to its sunny climate, local residents are usually considered to have an easy-going but hard-working temperament.
Also due to the pleasant weather conditions, the prefecture hosts many professional sports training camps especially baseball related that welcome major and national teams during the February/March period. This is also supported by local authorities who launched a “Sports Land Miyazaki” project to promote Miyazaki as a region for sport and leisure. [3]
